Maiku Brando is a design lab
About us
Based on the traditional and unceded territory of the Coast Salish People, which includes the territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.

What we do
We are a design lab: an ongoing experiment in how to design better and make things better in the contemporary world. We bring our experience in architecture, art, design, and sustainability to our work. Curiosity powers our drive to make meaningful objects for everyday use.
Process
Everything starts with research and learning methods of making, old and new, artisanal and industrial. We then adapt the techniques and technologies we learn about to our real-life context and design new objects.
Values
Because we care deeply about the how things are made, we select materials that are ethically supplied, sustainably produced, and, whenever possible, locally sourced. It's not as easy as it sounds and requires a some determination and resourcefulness.
Everything we make is for the time and place we live. Everything is made where we live in a way that supports the place we live. Achieving this requires a bit of creativity and a lot of dedication.
In short, we strive for everything we make to create positivity in the process of making it and while it's being used.
The useful, fun, sometimes delightful objects that we offer are a by-product of these various processes. We hope you enjoy them!
New collection
Our latest work is all about making soft, sewn things from local resources. We struck upon Canadian goose down, an amazing and surprisingly under-utilized Canadian natural resource.
Technically we have been studying the design and manufacture of 3-dimensional down filled products, such as sleeping bags and parkas. The current collection is the application of that knowledge to produce viable, locally-made products for the way we live, where we live.
New things are always in development in our studio - but we don't follow cycles, or seasons, or financial quarters. Maiku Brando only releases projects when they are ready.
